Extinguisher Types by Space and Risk

General office and retail areas typically use dry powder or CO2 extinguishers. Commercial kitchens need wet chemical extinguishers, rated for grease and cooking oil fires, alongside suppression. Electrical rooms need CO2 extinguishers, not types that could damage equipment or conduct electricity.

Placement and Spacing Requirements

Extinguishers need placement so no point sits beyond a set distance from the nearest unit. This is a floor area based calculation, not a fixed one per room rule. Mounting Height and Visibility

Extinguishers must be mounted at an accessible height, visible, and never blocked by stock. A common issue in retail fit-outs is extinguishers boxed in by shelving added later.

Signage Requirements
